Everyone loves the traditional fall scents of pumpkins and spice. Our fall collection every year is one of our most anticipated and contains some of our best-selling products. But sometimes, I like to highlight some of the other scents of the season, blends with notes like fig, sunflower, sage, magnolia leaf, oudh, & chai -- things you might not normally associate with fall. But - we think you’ll change your mind once you get a sniff!

This year's FALL SMALL BATCH RELEASE consists of scent blends that are inspired by the many different ways we experience the fall season, with an emphasis on the ending of the harvest season. We wanted to evoke a wide range of experiences, feelings, and memories that we carry from this liminal time that fills the divide between the warm days of summer and the chilly nights of winter.

The Inspiration and Process: If you've been following us long enough, you probably know that I love a good Dragon's Blood soap. Don't worry, though - there's no scales involved, or anything.

'Dragon's Blood' is the name of a scent blend that is often used for oils and incense. It is meant to recreate the scent of the fragrant bright red resin of the Dracaena cinnabari tree. These oil blends usually contain woodsy, resinous notes like patchouli, sandalwood, and frankincense.

I have created a Dragon's Blood soap nearly every fall for several years. I'm not exactly sure why I always connect this scent to late summer/early fall - maybe it has something to do with a time when we frequented more festivals this time of year, and there was always the scent of incense lingering in the crisp air.

This year's version certainly has extra woodsy, earthy notes, with a strong base of oudh and cedarwood oils that blend beautifully with notes of sandalwood, smoky incense, amber, sweet vanilla, blood orange, and iris flower. The bar is infused with rich, fragrant botanicals like caraway, black tea, and orange peel. I am beyond happy with the design - I was inspired by various red gemstones and minerals, like cinnabar (which the Dragon's blood tree is named after) and jasper.

I've called it 'Dragon' too many times, so this time I decided to name it after it's tree - DRACAENA.
